When is a simple power of attorney like this enough?
For everyday errands: dealing with offices and service providers, collecting post, parcels or documents, or handling vehicle paperwork on your behalf. The authorised person should carry the signed authorisation together with their own photo ID – and ideally a copy of yours.
When is this template not enough?
Banks, insurers and solicitors often insist on their own forms, and anything touching land or property usually needs formal documents. An enduring power of attorney – one that continues if you lose capacity – follows a separate statutory process in Ireland with its own registration; this template is not designed for that.
Can I cancel the authorisation later?
Yes, at any time. Tell the authorised person in writing that it is revoked and take the original back. You can also set a fixed end date in the template from the start, which is often the tidiest solution for a one-off errand.
Will offices accept a digitally signed authorisation?
Many will accept a printed copy of the digitally signed PDF – the signature is a simple electronic signature under the EU eIDAS Regulation, which applies directly in Ireland. Some offices want a handwritten signature or their own form, so if in doubt ring ahead, or print the PDF and sign it by hand as well.
