Common questions

Which contracts does moving get me out of?

Mainly location-bound ones. Broadband is the classic: if the provider cannot supply the new address, the contract cannot sensibly continue – check your provider’s moving-house policy. Energy accounts are normally closed with a final meter reading. Gyms depend on the contract: many allow early exit for a move beyond a certain distance.

Is the move alone enough?

Not always. If your provider can serve the new address on the same terms, the contract often just moves with you. The right to exit typically arises when the service cannot follow you – say so in the letter and name the new address.

What notice applies?

Check the contract – often around 30 days tied to the moving date. Send the letter as soon as the move is fixed, and enter the moving date or your preferred end date in the template.

Will they want proof of the move?
