Frequently asked questions

When do I need a receipt?

Whenever cash changes hands and proof makes sense: private sales, down payments, deposit handovers, repayments among friends. The receipt proves the amount was actually paid.

Who signs the receipt?

The person who received the money. Their signature confirms receipt of the amount.

Is a digitally signed receipt valid?

Yes, receipts have no mandatory form. Tamgara’s simple electronic signature is perfectly sufficient as private proof of payment.

Is a receipt the same as an invoice?

No. An invoice requests payment; a receipt confirms that payment was received. For private individuals the receipt is the proof of payment – for cash, often the only one.

How long should I keep receipts?

At least until warranty and limitation periods have run out – a few years as a rule of thumb, longer for major purchases. Keep rent and deposit receipts until well after the tenancy has ended.
