Frequently asked questions

When do I have a special right to terminate after a price increase?

For electricity and gas you can usually terminate as soon as the provider announces a price increase, often on short notice around the effective date. Many internet and insurance contracts grant a similar right. Check the announcement and your contract terms.

By when must the termination reach the provider?

Before the price increase takes effect. Because receipt is what counts, send it verifiably – for example by fax with a transmission report or by registered mail – and don’t wait until the last day.

Do I still have to pay the higher price?

No, if you terminate in time for the effective date: the previous conditions apply until the contract ends. The template includes an explicit objection to the price increase.

Is email or fax enough?

For most consumer contracts text form is sufficient – a signed PDF by email or fax works. Fax has the advantage of a transmission report as evidence of receipt. Keep the proof.
