In brief: the written authorisation in Malta

A power of attorney puts another person in your shoes for defined matters. For everyday errands a clear, signed authorisation generally suffices; formal matters in Malta belong before a notary.

Questions, answered

What will a simple authorisation like this get done?
The everyday errands: representing you before offices and service providers, collecting post, parcels or documents, sorting vehicle paperwork. The authorised person carries the signed document with their identity card – and best a copy of yours alongside.
Where does this template stop?
At everything formal. In Malta, matters touching property, inheritance or far-reaching mandates typically run through a notary – notarial deeds are a cornerstone of Maltese practice – and banks and insurers tend to demand their own forms. For any of that, this simple authorisation is not the instrument.
How do I withdraw the authorisation?
In writing, at any moment: tell the authorised person the mandate has ended and recover the original document. A neat alternative is to give the authorisation a built-in expiry date from the outset – the template offers exactly that.
Will a printed, digitally signed authorisation be accepted?
Frequently yes – the signature is a simple electronic signature under the EU eIDAS Regulation, in force in Malta as in every EU country. Individual offices may still ask for a handwritten signature or their own form; a call ahead, or a print-out signed by hand in addition, removes the doubt.
