How much time do the 14 days actually give me?

Counted from delivery for goods, from conclusion for most services – and what must happen inside the window is the sending of the cancellation, not its arrival. A trader who failed to inform you properly of the right extends it considerably, by operation of law.

Which purchases fall outside the right?

The familiar carve-outs: goods made to your specification, sealed hygiene articles once unsealed, perishables, digital content once you consented to immediate delivery. And shop purchases were never distance sales – returns there run on the shop’s goodwill policy.

Is the signed PDF by email enough?

Entirely – the law asks for a clear statement, not a form. The signed PDF states it clearly and provably; archived beside the order confirmation and the sending proof, the file is complete.

And the refund?

Due promptly once the cancellation is declared – price plus standard delivery – though the trader may hold it until the goods return or proof of their return arrives. The letter carries your account details so nothing delays on that side.
