A power of attorney authorizes another person – your agent – to act on your behalf. It is governed by state law: for everyday errands a simple signed written authorization is usually enough, while durable and healthcare powers follow state statutory forms.

Many banks, insurers and title companies require their own POA forms or a notarized signature – ask before relying on a generic template.
A power of attorney used for real estate generally must be notarized and recorded with the county recorder.

When is this simple power of attorney enough?

For everyday matters such as dealing with government offices, collecting parcels or documents, or handling vehicle paperwork at the DMV, a simple written authorization is usually sufficient. The authorized person (your agent) should carry the document and photo ID.

When do I need more than this template?

Banks, insurers and title or escrow companies often require their own forms, and many powers of attorney must be notarized. A power of attorney used for real estate usually has to be notarized and recorded with the county. Durable (financial) and healthcare powers of attorney follow separate state statutory forms – this template is not meant for those.

Can I revoke it?

Yes, at any time. The simplest way is to revoke it in writing towards the authorized person and take back the original. You can also limit the validity to a fixed period right in the template.

Is the digital signature valid?
